Gundam fans will have more reason than many people to look forward to 2025, with a new animated series starting in Japan and an accompanying model launch.
The new GQuuuuuuX Gundam series will be a classic anime-style production, with the GQuuuuuuX being a central feature as its wearer does battle in mechanised clan battles (known as clan-bat for short).
Fights take place on board a space colony where the combatants fight for money, but can also face the real prospect of getting killed, as the winner triumphs by destroying the head of their opponent.
The story follows the story of a group of young fighters who rely on mechanised suits to compete in these battles, after high school girl Amate Yuzuriha finds her hitherto peaceful life ends when she is drawn into the battles by Nyaan, a war refugee.
This series alone would be enough to give fans lots to be excited about, but the launch of the new HG model version of the GQuuuuuuX Gundam suit only adds to it.
As Polygon reports, the series production team is a who’s who of anime, with Kazuya Tsurumaki acting as director, scripts co-written by the creator of Evangelion Hideaki Anno alongside Yoji Enokido, mechanical design by Ikuto Yamashita, character design from Take and storyboard art from Mahiro Maeda.
With such a stellar line-up, the show is bound to attract loads of anime fans and this big following will create the prospect of the Gundam model getting a lot of interest, making it a collectible that will be highly sought-after as it is indelibly linked with the top talents of the genre.
The premiere is set to take place in theatres across Japan on January 17th, with the full series starting later at a date yet to be announced.
For anime fans and Gundam collectors alike, it promises to mark a very exciting start to the New Year.
