The grade was launched on the back of the Gundam AGE series, which was first shown in 2011 and 2012.
The storyline features a space colony that is at peace until attacked by an “unknown enemy”, with the main protagonist being Flit Asuno, a survivor of the destruction of a previous space colony, who carries the plans for a Gundam that can fight this mysterious foe. What Makes Advanced Grade Kits So Simple?
Among the features of the kits that add to their simplicity is colouration. They are produced in the colours of the model already, so no painting is involved. Another feature is that joint flexibility is limited to the head and shoulders, which means there are fewer poses they can do.
The 1/144 size of the kits is at the smaller end of the scale, but this is not uncommon, being shared with High Grade, Real Grade and First Grade. Larger models may be more daunting for beginners, so the size of Advanced Grade models does create an opportunity to work with something very manageable.
At the same time, because there are other grades on the same scale, beginners can move on to building models in these ranges to ensure that they get lots of practice in building smaller and simpler models before moving on to more challenging tasks.
