The Ultimate Gunpla: The PG Unleashed RX-93 Nu Gundam

The world of Gundam, Gunpla has come a long way in 45 years, and perhaps nowhere is that more evident than in one of the most highly anticipated fan-desired mobile suit kits in history.

Every series has its fans, and there are countless models and grades for each of them, but Char’s Counterattack, the 1988 feature film that concluded the original saga (from Mobile Suit Gundam to Gundam ZZ), has become the fan favourite amongst fan favourites.

This meant that the response to a Perfect Grade Unleashed version of the RX-93 Nu Gundam used in the climax led to what can only be described as rapturous joy amongst the fandom.

The Perfect Grade Unleashed line is an attempt to, in the words of Bandai themselves, create the “greatest gunpla in history”, using all of the technical mastery, moulding technology and pure love of the craft to create not only the most detailed mobile suits both inside and out, but also make you feel that you are actually building a mecha yourself.

The first PG Unleashed model was, naturally, the original RX-78-2 produced for the 40th anniversary in 2020. As the most iconic mecha design in history and available in every single grade possible, it made sense that it would be used to test the concept.

There was a lot of anticipation surrounding the second, as it could have been Unicorn Gundam (RX-0), Freedom Gundam (ZGMF-X10A) or even Char’s Zaku II (MS-06S), which is almost as iconic as the original Gundam.

Giving the RX-93 the PG Unleashed treatment, complete with staged construction, unbelievable levels of detail, articulation and customisation, as well as deployable gimmicks, metallic pieces and stickers, flexible cabling and a detailed psycho frame, the RX-93 is the ultimate version of the ultimate fan favourite mobile suit.

All of this is only possible thanks to being in the Perfect Grade 1/60 scale, and even months in advance of its January 2026 launch, it has become amongst the most hotly desired model kits ever made.
